how to cook mustard and turnip greens

These meaty Mustard and Turnip greens are a Southern staple, easy as 1-2-3 and make a delicious side dish on any day of the week.

Mustard and Turnip Greens

Mustard and Turnip Greens!!! Oh my, yes! And to be totally honest, I never made mustard and turnip greens before I got married to my "country as buttermilk" hubby. Hubby told me all about his favorite meal after we married. I had an inkling that it would be country…lol! To take it the meal over the top, he requested Oxtail Stew, northern beans, hot water cornbread and these greens! Wow! If that isn't country, I don't know what is!!!

And did I mention that I had never made any of these dishes before I married Willie?!?!? Yikes! Newly married and hadn't the slightest clue where to start. Meanwhile, I called momma and she sent me in the right direction and over the years, I have perfected his favorite meal as he requests it often. They are always on the menu for New Year's Day along with a pot of beans! You eat black eyed peas for New Year's, we eat northern beans!

You're probably asking, "don't you already have a turnip green recipe?" Well the short answer is yes. One of the biggest differences between Auntee Gail's Turnip Greens and these are mine are loaded with turkey neck meat. Secondly, they have an equal ratio of mustard vs turnip greens. Thirdly, these have no turnip roots.

HOW TO MAKE MUSTARD AND TURNIP GREENS

Auntee Gail always asks why I put so much meat in mine. Lol! The meatiness of these greens make for a well rounded low carb meal in my opinion is all. 🙂

And these greens are super easy to make. All you need are some key ingredients and a bit of time. Turnip greens tend to be on the bitter side so the key is adding a some sweetness in my opinion. These mustard and turnip greens are just loaded with flavor and super tough to resist especially with some cornbread.

Have a Happy New Year guys and I'll see you in 2021 where I'm in great expectation of good health and prosperity in the mighty Name of Jesus! Say Grace and enjoy!!
